  1. Hi Randall - this is Dan Whitmarsh, Associate Pastor at Cornerstone in Turlock (Brad's gig). I've been lurking around, checking your site for about 6 months, and thought I'd finally say "hi." I spent a couple years on the Canadian prairies, so you bring back memories as you describe your life and ministry. May God continue to bless you, your ministry, and your family.

  2. Hi Dan!!

What were you doing on the prairies??

and were you the guy cheering on the canucks the other day? Cause if you were, well you shoulda seen the game last night. Calgary in overtime!!

So, you work with Brad eh? I'll put you on my prayer list.

  3. Spent my first 2 years out of HS at PBI in 3 Hills. I don't share that with everybody - can get you in trouble in the Covenant. . .but eventually God brought me out of Egypt into the land flowing with milk and honey.

That wouldn't have been me cheering on the Canucks. I just don't get hockey. Even 2 years in Canada didn't make it stick. More of a baseball fan myself. And Brad's not so tough, other than the Orthodox chants he makes us sing in our staff meetings.

  6. PBI is a more conservative school which hasn't always been open to ... to explore other ideas?

Esp. in the Canadian Covenant church context. In the 1940's in Canada, there was a discussion on the Atonemnet within the ministerial. My understanding is that some were quite opposed to any exploration on that topic. In the end a number of pastors and churches left the Covenant. Most of those were trained at PBI.

Thus the "I don't mention that much" statement!!

Now, are you the Martin Coca-cola Friesen I went to school with back in the early 80's???

  7. When I took the "I love the Covenant" Class with Phil Anderson in Pasadena in 1997, he made it very clear that PBI was responsible (in a round-about way) for splitting the Canadian Covenant Church, a split from which it is still attempting to recover. CQ had a good article a couple months ago referencing the same events.
