As I emerged from my bedroom this morning and heard the Irish radio station playing on the computer, and saw the Irish cookbooks spread open on the table, and herself at the stove speaking with the strong Irish brogue like she just arrived off a boat yesterday, I knew what day It was.
Aye, happy St. Paddy's day to ya.
Now if a guy could get a decent pint of Guinness out here on the prairies.
If I'm not mistaken, the Belly Up has Guiness on tap.
ReplyDeleteBut could you really see him going to Belly Up?
ReplyDeleteThat's the place on 2nd with the big neon guitar sign out front, right?
That's the place.
ReplyDeleteI believe it was a year ago today that we were at the Belly Up enjoying a pint of Guinness. Of course, the reason we went was to see my neighbour's sons' blues band play, the pint was incidental. But it was St. Patty's day weekend.
I do believe I have been there twice now, and yes it was a year ago to see that blues band.
ReplyDeleteBut it was freakin busy that night, unbelievably so. No place to stand or even move.
I guess I haven't been there since.
The Guinness on tap there is terrible. It's terrible everywhere in Prince Albert, as well as most other places I've been to. Tis a shame. The bottled stuff is decent, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get to a bar, unless it's a truly gritty Irish pub.
ReplyDeleteI don't know about that Matt: if you're judging "on tap" Guinness with bottled Guinness, I think you're doing things backwards. At least, that's what I've heard---it's the bottled stuff that's somewhat "off".
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's always better on tap.
