Home again, home again, and it all feels good.

10 days on the road and I'm a gonna sleep in my own bed tonight.

Sorry to all of you who communicated a desire to meet with us, and all you who didn't even know we were in Winnipeg and are now feeling like we don't like you!!!

We do, we really do love ya.

Our priorities this time were a family vacation and to try to visit my Aunts and Uncles. They are getting older and, well they are great people, we wanted our kids to see them again. Since we only had a few days, we were not able to see you all.

And now I think I'll go see about that bed.

g'nite.

  1. Hmmm. Obscure reference in this post -- Antsylvania, the old 80's kids Christian music tape ("we love ya, we really do love ya come on home!")? Which was one of my FAVORITES. I can still remember most of the lyrics to this day. That, and Music Machine.

But that may be an American thing, I dunno. It's rare I run into people that remember those silly 80's records/tapes.

  2. I lived on Music Machine most of my childhood! And I'm Dutch/Canadian. I've passed the torch on to my daughter...

  3. I remember Antsylvania. Anybody remember the lyrics to the song about work? "Work, Work! Work, work, work! We know it ien't easy but at times it can be fun." If you know them, please post them--the tune is running through my head, and jit's reallly frustrating.

  4. work work work work work work
    diligence is quite a virtue
working hard will never hurt you
    when you're through there's always a reward
we begin our job in April and we never take a break till
everything for winter has been stored
we don't pretend it's easy but at times it can be fun
and there never is a feeling just as good as the one that you feel when you're done
    (lalalalalalalala)
work work work work work work work work work
boy we like to work hooray for work!

    without making preparation
for the coming winter when you go...

  7. Dont judge a book by it's cover,
dont judge your sister or your brother,
and please dont judge me by my ugly ugly ugliness,
to find the truth it just might take some time,
    yep, yep, yep,
to find the truth it just might take some time.

  8. Oh my gosh, I have been singing that work song for 20 years driving myself crazy that I couldn't remember the second half of the first verse. Finally I decided to search for it and here it is. Thanks so much!!

  9. look at all the different folks you know,
you can't see the part that doesn't show,
We all have parts that appearances can hide
like the freckles on your noses or the warts upon your toes
will never show you what their like inside

  10. My husband is laughing at me but I had them all, Down by the Creekbank, Psalty, Bullfrogs and Butterflies. I just found the whole shabang at agapelandmusic.com. I'm ordering them for my son for christmas. Hated listening to them as a kid, but now I appreciate every single song and have to admit I love them all. For those of you who were forced to listen to Gingerbread Fair...hang in there for the laughing clown...worth the entire record just for that! God Bless!

  15. Oh, this is a hoot! I should have googled ANTsylvania first. I just finished importing my 20+ year old videotape of ANTsylvania. where my little brother played the CommandANT. It was a junior high kids production of ANTsylvania that the church put on. Anyway, I just finished burning a DVD of said video, to give to him as a present. Now I find out I spelled ANTsylvania wrong. (Thanx Kristen) Hahaha Not only that, but I divided the play into where I thought the scenes were, and titled scenes and songs as I thought they might have been named. Good thing blank DVD's are cheap.

  18. Here's Antony's solo part of Toast of the Town:

    I'm gonna be rich
    I'm gonna be famous
    I'm gonna be dashing
    I'm gonna be free
    I'm gonna be wise
    I'm gonna be noble
I'm gonna be wonderful, beautiful, marvelous me!

All the world will gather at my feet.
Searching for my wisdom, hoping for my favor.
All the world will wait upon my word.
All the world will be in love with me.

  19. Here's the duet part:

I'm gonna be rich (Yessiree, a regular Rockerfellar)
I'm gonna be famous (the queen will have you up for tea)
I'm gonna be dashing (all the girls will say you're simply smashing)
I'm gonna be free (as independAnt as you can be)
I'm gonna be noble & wise (you'll win the Nobel prize)
I'm gonna have power (sonny boy, you'll be Ant of the Hour!)
I'm/You're gonna be the toast of the town
    Oh yea!
I'm/You're gonna be the toast of the town!

  20. Dorian (or anyone), any chance you could finish off the: "A certain sower sowed some seeds one certain sunny day!"? We used Antshillvania for teaching the kids at family camp one summer, then when we had kids, they love Antshillvania too. That was many years ago. Today, while I was reading the parable of the sower and the seed, that little poem popped into my mind from very long ago, but I could only recall the first part. (Thanks for the entire line, btw...I couldn't even manage that!)

    Great blog Randall, thanks!

  21. Sower song (verse 1 - Cecilia)
A certain sower sowed some seed one sunny summer day
A snoopy sparrow spied the spoils and shouted, "Seeds! Hooray!"
The sower stopped and shouted "Shoo!" then sighed in sad dismay
As a swarm of sassy sparrows swooped and swiped the seed away.

    Verse 2 - Seymour
A certain sower sowed some seed on shallow stony soil.
Some spunky sprigs came sprouting up but started soon to broil.
The sultry searing summer sun swung sweltering overhead
'til the sizzling seedlings sadly sagged and sighed, "So long, we're dead!"

    Verse 3 - Sam
A certain sower sowed some seed. Some settled in the ground
Surrounded by a sticker patch with stickers all around.
The stickey stickers stuck and stabbed and scratched and scraped and tore
'Til they swallowed all the seedlings up, and soon there were no more.

    Verse 4 - Sam & Cecilia
A certain sower sowed some seed in super soil he found.
And soon some super shoots sprang up and super roots sprang down.
As seasons sent the sun and showers, at last there stood full grown
A shady, shiny orchard where the sower's seeds were sown!

  24. Thanks for the agapelandmusic.com link! I was hoping such a thing would exist, but I would never have thought to look for the word "agapeland". Obviously I'm not quite sappy enough...

This has been a blast from the past, it must be said. Oh, and I'm an Aussie kid, and I grew up with Psalty, Ants'hillvania, the Birthday Albumn and all that jazz.

  25. This was one of my favorite records when I was a kid and I definitely want my son to be able to experience it too!

  26. Wow, this six year old blog post still comes up high on Google when you search "Antsylvania". I don't know why I was thinking about it, we must've performed it in the late '80s at my grade school. So did you actually mean to evoke the music, or did the first comment actually misinterpret your wording? Regardless, it's awesome to see all these posts spread out over the years. "Antsyl- Antsyl- Antsylvania, that's our song [rah rah rah]"

  27. I am thankful for the wholesome, fun tunes that are in the Antshillvania music.
My children learned Godly morals and character lessons from listening to it.

Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, Except you are converted and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

I am 74 years old and have raised my kids on these precious tunes and lyrics. I am now purchasing them again for my grand and great grand kids. My kids still love them and we will listen again first. I am so glad for this site to reclaim some of the words and to see that lots of us want to hold on to that very special time of our lives where the world was simpler and we all sang together.

  31. I have been going through some tough times. This morning all of a sudden the Seeds song was in my head. I played Seymour when I was a teen and I had the time of my life. I loved it. The song gave me peace this morning. I had to hunt down the lyrics because I couldn't remember them all. SO glad someone posted them. :-)
