Today I Built a Pergola

I am exhausted.

I hurt in places I don't even have body.

Good night.

UPDATE:

Here is the start of it. Needs some paint and some Trelises (Plural Trelis!) And getting the vines growing. But we're off.

Actually, when you sit out there it feels like your sitting on a porch.

One of the kids said it looked like a bandstand. Cool, I hadn't thought
of that, but now I'm thinking of having a few concerts in the back
yard! You know, invite a little Jazz ensemble by for an outdoors
evening of Jazz...

  1. O.K. I'll bite. Call me the first ignorant one or most stupid for that matter, to ask "what on earth is a Pergola" that it can almost kill and/or obliterate you.........?????? Something like an "out of body" experience perhaps?????

  2. For those landscapingly challenged, a pergola is a deck with a roof made of wood slats. The kind of thing a vine could grow up and take over, thing.

Hope it's nice to sit below in the summer.

  5. Basically, it looks like a big square bandstand taking up all the sunny space in the yard. If you squint really hard, and stand far away, it can sort of blend into the scenery...

  7. Hey, that looks well made. Apparently Bob isn't the only builder.

If I ever make it across I promise I'll sit there and play at you and Lauralea until you have to throw things at me to make me stop ;-) Probably not jazz though.

  9. So, getting back to this "Pergola" thingy, I have asked several people what they thought this was and most folks thought it was a plant. Even my dear carpenter husband had no idea BUT now we know. I like vines and crawling bushes too but I think I'd still rather have a fire pit, if I had to choose....who ever heard of roasting marshmallows on an open Pergola???

  10. I sure have. We could set it on fire and have a lovely bonfire.

  12. Yeah it looks good. But Randall, where are the corner braces?

Another question: How DO you pronounce "pergola"?:)

Sharon, the firepit thing is great but you too can have a pergola in your yard--mostly the pergola is fastenend to an existing structure, say a house, for example and usually over the deck part. So out the back of your house one could build a pergola over the top of your deck. They actually provide an amazing amount of shade. Which is why I feel for Johanna, but then Johanna, you'll just have to sit by your back door and roast there!
