New math witchcraft

Ok. take any number, larger than one digit.

Add the individual numbers.

Subtract that total from the original number.

Now take that answer and add those individual digits together.

Your answer?

Nine.

  1. And if there are more than two digits in the final answer, keep adding them together until there's only one... and it seems to always be 9. (ie: if the final answer = _ _, add the two digits in the answer and they will be 9. If there are four or more digits in the answer, keep adding them up until there's only 1. It will be 9)

This is sooo weird. *cue "Twilight Zone" theme music.

  2. I've seen many weird math questions -- add this, divide this subtract that and take the square root of...but never one this "simple." Hmmmm...will have to take this one back to the math consultants at the office.

  3. Am I doing this wrong?
    Step one:
My number is ab, where 1<=a<=9 & 0<=b<=9
The value of ab is 10*a+b
    Step two:
    a+b
    Step three:
    (10*a+b)-(a+b) = 10*a +b - a- b = 9*a
    Step four:
    9+a

    Unless a = 0, this can't be true?
