Nine Eleven

How does it happen that five years ago after the towers fell, you could read handmade signs held by people around the world saying "Today we are all New Yorkers."

And five years later no one wants that association.

  1. America is a dirty word worldwide, and New York a dirty city.

But TBH I haven't noticed that attitude at all - all the fora and blogs I've seen have had almost everyone standing together in support.

Maybe Canada feels differently? Maybe no-one really swallowed the lie that Iraq was responsible for 9/11? Maybe people have been sickened by the sale of 'ground zero' baseball caps and tees (as someone related to me 2 days ago)?

  2. I scanned a headline in today's National Post reporting that 1 in 5 Canadians believe the conspiracy theory that the attacks weren't committed by Islamic terrorists, but were a deliberate act of the U.S. government to justify war with Iraq. Amazing.

  3. Really? I have never encountered anyone who thought those things... Maybe I'm travelling in a weird circle though. As for me, it feels like yesterday and my heart still breaks a little whenever I think of that day and the days immediately afterwards... Watching people search for loved ones who were never coming home. So senseless. I guess I need to be more political or something cause I can't make myself care whose "fault" it was or wasn't. I just care that it happened and pray that God's love will give peace to all involved.

  4. Polls indicate that fully a third of Americans believe the attacks were a deliberate act of the American government.

    That's alot of cheese.

(I was trying to get the polls online but ran out of time. I'll look later on.)
