Oilers 4, Hurricanes 3.

Getty ImagesWow, what a game last night. The Oilers played hard and Fernando Pisani was the man of the night. You knew it was going to be a good one when Edmonton scored 14 seconds into the game.

Then in overtime, Fernando scored the winner. Sweet.

This might turn into a contest after all.

  1. Oh man, what a roller coaster that was! I got pumped when Pronger scored at :16, then was down when they tied it up, down more when Carolina took the lead, then up when it was tied again, then down when the lame penalty was called in overtime. Oh man, what a game!

    They're still in it!!

  2. Should I mention that the statistics?

Teams that have lost the first 2 games in the finals end up losing the entire series: 97%

So statiscally they pretty much lost it after game 2. But I am still cheering for them anyway!!

(See what happens when you have a hockey crazed kid?)

  3. Normally I have little to no interest in NHL results, but having lived in Edmonton during the 1980s, the hey days of the Gretzky, Messier et al dynasty, even I am interested enough that I took the time to watch the 3rd period of play last night. Unfortunately I got busy with something else after regulation time, coming back to the TV minutes after Pisani's short-handed OT goal. My goal for Game 6 is to watch at least two entire periods.

  4. C'mon, Peggy! What does a stat mean, really? It's just a number based on past events, but has no bearing on the future. What does a 97% stat mean when a team turns out to fit into the 3% difference?

    GO OILERS!!

  5. Hey ... don't get me wrong I would love for them to win. Edmonton is the closest large center to YK and I can't tell you how many people are driving around with Oiler flags on the vehicles. I was just stating that they have allot to work against not the least of which is the overwhelming statistic (which I tend to think has alot to do with the mind game of hockey) Their biggest loss by far was the loss of Rolafson perhaps but I think it was likely their 2nd game where they couldn't score a goal to save their lives. You actually have to put the puck in the net to WIN.

But- having said all that I just amaze myself when I actually can carry on a conversation about NHL hockey considering the family I was raised in never watched a game. So I will just be quiet now....

  6. Hey, not too quiet ok?

I'm not a regular season fan, you know, when they play for the money. I like it when they play to win.

So I am a confirmed jump on the wagon fan.

  7. I was worried about the loss of Roloson as well, but after game 2 Markannen has really stepped up to the plate.

Truth be told, I think you're right, Peg. The deck is stacked against Edmonton, statistically and skill wise. Edmonton is a good team, but I think Carolina is generally a better team.
