Hey just curious...

How many of you know about and use Skype?

Just wondering out loud here.

  1. I did but the Uni doesn't really like it due to the way it sets itself up on the network and can be a bit of a drain on resources.

  2. I know it. I have it. I rarely use it.

There are too many options for online communication, and most people I know are still using MSN Messenger or Google Talk. I know these can't make computer-to-phone calls, but I don't know many people who do this.

It'd be nice if there was a universal application that covered all of the various communication brands, so that I wouldn't have to maintain contacts on 4 or 5 different programs.

  3. I tried it and it sucked, hard to hear, very spotty. Don't waste your time.

  4. use it, like it very much. Would use it more but the time difference and my lack of thinking ahead keep my from using it more.

  5. Incidentally, I have no complaints about Skype---contrary to Trevor's (Peggy's?) experience, I was quite impressed with the sound quality, at least as compared to MSN Messenger's voice feature.

I don't generally use Skype simply because it's just one more IM/VOIP program to add to the list (so far, MSN Messenger, Google Talk and Yahoo! Messenger)

  6. I know about it and have it. I used to use it when you could call any phone line for free (up until the end of December of this past year). I found that not enough people know about it/have it, so it doesn't really work out so well. If everyone had it though, we could save a whole lot of money!!!

  7. Well Trevor has it and he has used it to call me from the mine. It was very hollow and had a huge delay. Found it was way easier to chat via Google or use this old fashion thing called a telephone.

  8. You know I use it...almost every day...and I LOVE it.

Telephone costs money that I don't have, and skype usually has no delay, when you talk skype to skype. And this way I can talk to my friend in Belgium, or my friends in the states, or my friend in africa, or my family. for free.

It's pretty much amazing. But like Shauna said, nobody seems to have it.

  9. I just heard about it YESTERDAY from a friend who is an M.K. (missionary kid) living in Quito, Ecuador. Her parents are in Mexico City and apparently they talk for hours at a time and love it. I think I need to get on board so I can talk to them too.

  10. Martin (my friend here in Marseille) uses it regularly.

  11. We use Skype regularly to stay in touch with our family -- our picture phone. It's pretty reliable. We usually get great connections -- slight lag in conversation -- but not bad. I also use them for computer to phone long distance sometimes -- pretty inexpensive.
