Just in case I thought God wasn't behind this trip...

Yesterday as the news was settling upon us, Lauralea and I were talking, looking at a map of the U.K.

She said she would love to be able to stop in the town where her ancestors came from. She said it was a place called Kendal, so we found it on the map and wondered if we would be able to make our way there. It looks a bit off the beaten path.

And that was all there was to it.

This morning there was an email waiting in the queue of morning mail in my account. One caught my attention because it was an offer of a bed in the lake district.

It was from Rachel and her generous offer was a pleasant surprise to me. She's a reader here and like most of you, a quiet reader.

I thought this might be a good opportunity to meet somebody new. It was kind of cool.

.

Then I read the bottom of her email, with her name and address.

Seems she lives on Burneside Road.

In Kendal.

  2. The lake district is a lovely area. I suspect you aren't going to have enough time here - any chance for an extension?

  5. How long is your sabbatical anyway? What other plans do you have for it? Will you do any writing for publication?

  6. So cool for Lauralea.

When we were in England 4 years ago we drove through Leigh (my paternal grandmother's birthplace) It was really powerful to just know we were there and to see her maiden name on streets and in the phonebook and to just know that somewhere my ancestral history was there.

  7. Kevin,

Yeah, rest, reflection, getting my mojo back. That's all on the agenda for the time.

I will remain seeing my Spiritual Director, and there is a two week educational component in there taking my yearly course down in Chicago.

Then there's three weeks of our family holidays we will tag on the end of it.

As for writing, I REALLY want to be in a space where I can do some writing again, but I expect the only published works will be here, or in my prayer journal.

    :)
