So, you wanna know who dies in the last book of Harry Potter, due out this Saturday?

Yeah, thanks to the Internet, I know that little bit of  information. Although it does me no good, because I haven't read any of the books, and I've seen only half of a movie. I have no real context in which those two little names mean anything.

So, I'll have some fun hanging it over Lauralea's head for a bit, teasing her that "I know who dies..."

Ahem, yeah now for some REAL life.

We are at Lauralea's mom and dad's house this week to catch up and see family and friends. It's been fun, well EXCEPT FOR THE HEAT!!

I mean, I think I would prefer the doctor/terrorists and the balmy, beautiful cool of Scotland to this +30C muggy heat.

I've been doing a bunch of reading and writing, trying to get ready for the next installment of my Spiritual Direction course in Chicago.

It's going well, I think. And I only have a few more books to go through, so it's good.

And yeah, next week Chicago. I'm thinking of turning this blog into a travel blog. Scotland, Broadview, Chicago. All the great places to get fresh haggis, donuts, and Hot Dogs.

But, if history is any indication, it'll be stinking hot in Chicago. And humid, hot and humid. That really takes the joy out of it for me.

Still, it's been good to be here, and to be quiet and think deep thoughts and read deep books.

I think tomorrow I will hate to leave.

But home calls, and at home is another person who has read the Potter books, and that just means there is one more person to tease that I know who dies.
Life is good.

  1. Are you quoting "The Pillars of the Assembly"? "It is HOT and HUMID, Doris!"

Incidentally, I'd like to issue a threat at this point: mention Harry Potter any more for the next couple of weeks, particularly with respect to the imminent death of a character, and there will be trouble---from within your home and from without! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, RANDALL J. FRIESEN!

  2. Actually Randall, if you have the link to the death of... the person I think I read dies I'd appreciate an email or even just the true name(s) as I'm not sure if what I read was accurate or a hoax site of someone looking for attention. I've never read the books, but I've received the summaries from my wife and I have seen the movies. I'm not opposed to spoilers in any way so share the knowledge please. Thanks! :)

  3. A URL would, of course, be the decent thing to provide: unless it was www.snapeandharrycopit.com

    lol

Marc, your future reading of randallfriesen.com is safe. I will not divulge the life or death of any potterites.

I'd like to say that it's because I appreciate good literature and spoilers and such, but the bottom line is that you know where I live. And now that you own a big foreign van, you could probably run me over before I even hear it coming.

Jay, just google potter, spoiler, and toronto star, and you should be off and running.

Oh and my middle initial is E.

  7. (My middle initial is "J", if that clears anything up...)

  8. Mine, too! And so is Dixie's!

And Johanna's first initial is "J", isn't it?

Interesting how the five of us should all have a "J" as one of our initials---and for four of us it's the middle one! Coincidence?

  9. My second initial is also "J". Because I am a Joy.

So I'm extra cool since I have TWO initials with a "J".
